These paintings examine our inextricability from landscape, exploring the evolution of self through painting and the negotiation of inner and outer spaces, belying the separation between the two. Each piece heavily relies on time in its examination and creation, exploring the interplay of spontaneity and control in the process. The liminality between interior and exterior and the reciprocity between conception and creation are central to this work. Each painting mirrors the growth and evolution of oneself, continually taking form, performing a negotiation of self and environment. They become landscapes of their own, full of texture, flowing into small valleys, pools, and raised forms, assuming varied tones and colors. Mindscapes seek to understand the breadth and depth of landscape, revealing the landscape within our beings and exposing ourselves as integral and dynamic parts of environment.
